Photo of the Day: Golden Garuda on Ubosoth, Wat Phra Kaew Temple in Bangkok, Thailand

The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew could be lengthy photo essays on their own, but today I wanted to highlight one of my favorite photographs from my first visit to the complex.  From a photography standpoint, I was intrigued (probably for hours) with the Golden Garuda that adorned the Ubosoth, which is the main building of Wat Phra Kaew Temple.

I remember that July afternoon was brutally hot and humid and it was compounded by adhering to the clothing guidelines required for visiting the Grand Palace.

Who forgets sunscreen on in Southeast Asia?!?

Me, apparently!

I guess I was so fascinated with the Grand Palace I didn’t pay any mind. Well, I certainly paid for it later with one of the worst sunburns I can remember.

Lesson learned, but hey, I at least got this great shot!

This is a gorgeous shot! I love the select focus and bokeh. I’ve been to Wat Phra Kaew 3 times and I would go back a fourth.
