Hard to believe that a year ago, Japan was forever changed after the devastating 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that literally leveled a portion of the island nation. We should all take some time to remember these events, and their continuing impact on Japan and its people.
Last March, we spent a couple days at one of Saigon’s newest luxury hotels, located right in the heart of District 1 and most of the important tourist attractions. The InterContinental Asiana Saigon Residences had opened shortly before our arrival and surprisingly we found a much better rate than many of the older, lower rated hotels.
Every year, Taiwan celebrates the Dragon Boat Holiday, and part of the annual celebration includes dragon boat races that draw crowds from all around the island and beyond. This photo was from one of the races in Taipei that was really close between three of the four teams.
Located in the Marunouchi district of Tokyo, the brick Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum stands in juxtaposition to the surrounding high rises. Although just completed in 2009, the museum is a direct replica of the original 1894 Mitsubishi Ichigokan that stood on the same corner, but was was torn down in 1968.
Located at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall complex, Taipei’s National Theater and Concert Halls are quite a sight to behold.
On Taiwan’s east coast, there is an annual sand sculpture festival located at Fulong Beach. Some photos from our visit to the 2011 Fulong Beach Sand Sculpture Festival.
