Located in the Marunouchi district of Tokyo, the brick Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum stands in juxtaposition to the surrounding high rises. Although just completed in 2009, the museum is a direct replica of the original 1894 Mitsubishi Ichigokan that stood on the same corner, but was was torn down in 1968.
Portions of the original plans and materials were used in the replica, giving it an air of authenticity. It’s quite impressive in person to stand on the opposite street corner with nothing but high rises all around and look back at what Tokyo looked like 100 years ago.
