Photo of the Day: Weeping Cherry Blossom (Shidarezakura) at Maruyama Park in Kyoto, Japan
I just spent my birthday and Easter weekend exploring Kyoto and Nara, both cities I had not traveled to yet. One of the main things I was hoping to see were the cherry blossoms, or sakura. Maruyama Park is one of the best spots to view the sakura in Kyoto. Unfortunately, due to the crazy storm that rolled through Japan earlier in the week, the blooms were pushed back a few days.
The centerpiece of the park is the giant weeping cherry blossom tree, known as shidarezakura. This was taken just as the sun was setting and the lights were coming on the tree. Couldn’t ask for a better way to spend my birthday!
