No Checked Bags in Italy for #Blogville project with Emilia Romagna Tourism Board

I’m thrilled to share that I’m headed to Italy twice on behalf of my culinary travel blog, Our Tasty Travels, as part of a very special and unique project, BlogVille.

The Emilia Romagna Tourism Board is hosting this incredible project that brings travel bloggers together to Bologna and Rimini in an effort to promote tourism in the region.  While you might just assume this is another press trip, it’s anything but.

Bloggers will be cycling in and out of a special apartment the tourism board has rented, allowing us to experience the authentic side of Bologna and Rimini.  Rather than everyone heading out on the same excursions and writing about the same activities, we are free to explore the region at our leisure and decide what activities and events we want to experience.

I’m beyond excited to have been chosen not only to particular in the Bologna portion, but to return for a second trip to Rimini! I’m headed to Bologna May 7 – May 16 and I will be in Rimini July 8 – July 14. The Emilia Romagna Tourism Board received thousands of applicants for both apartments so it is truly an honor that I was selected to participate.

Rather than research the destinations to death like I normally do, I am going into this somewhat blind to see what new things I may discover that I would’ve otherwise missed trying to fulfill an unrealistic itinerary.   Here is what I have learned about each region so far.

 

Bologna

Located between the Tuscan-Emmilian Appenines and the Po Valley, Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region. It is home to one of the largest and most well-preserved historical city centers.  It is a UNESCO Creative City of Music.

Rimini

Most of what I have been told about Rimini is the nightlife is one of the city’s highlights.  There is much more to Rimini from what I have read – archaeological remnants like Augustus arch, Tiberius Bridge, Sismondo Castle and more are some of the sights I hope to explore.

Since the primary coverage will be on my culinary travel blog, I plan to focus on eating and drinking my way through both Bologna and Rimini.  What I do know is that I may eat more in Bologna and develop a pretty good sense of the cocktail scene in Rimini, an area known for some legendary nightlife.

Currently, I am scheduled for two different day trips in Bologna, which have a food element to them. I am hoping to squeeze in some fine dining, wine tours, and a cooking class if I am super lucky.

May 10th – Parma

  • We will be headed to Parma and its surroundings with a focus on Giuseppe Verdi (music) and food (Parma ham and cheese).

May 15th – Modena

  • We are headed to the historic town of Modena and its surrounding area with a focus on the Enzo Ferrari Museum, the Maranello Ferrari Museum (MotorValley) and a visit to a balsamic vinegar producer!
