Photo of the Day: Sunset over Fakarava Atoll in French Polynesia
After quite a disturbed sleep routine this week, I’ve found myself awake for nearly every sunrise — mostly because I was still awake (working) as the sun was rising rather than waking up early. I’m typically not a morning person at all and if I had to choose, it would be sunsets all the way.
This afternoon, one of my friends in Belize posted a stunning sunset photo on Facebook and it brought me back to one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen.
Back in 2009, I was lucky enough to take a Paul Gauguin Cruise through French Polynesia and, after a series of three cyclones completely disrupted our itinerary, we made an unscheduled stop on Fakarava atoll for the afternoon. While leaving that evening, the rain had eased up and we were treated to one of the most dramatic sunsets I’ve ever experienced. This is just the start of what eventually turned into a sky of deep purples, muted yellows, and soft pinks.
Really need to do a photo essay post just on this sunset..I still remember it like it was yesterday!
