Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River. Connected to St. Paul, they are commonly referred to as the Twin Cities. Sports, cultural events, shopping, and stunning natural landscapes are just a few of the reasons to visit. If you’re looking for boutique lodging in Minneapolis, here are five hotels to check out.

Aloft Minneapolis

Aloft Minneapolis is located in the trendy Mill District of downtown, close to a variety of attractions including US Bank Stadium, Guthrie Theater, and Target Field. The 155 rooms are modern loft style, complete with high ceilings, extra large windows, a dedicated work-space, signature platform beds, and more. Take a dip in the indoor pool, get a workout at the 24/7 fitness center, or hang out in the Re:mix lounge and play a game of pool.

Important note: There is a renovation in progress at Aloft, expected to take place from January to April 2016.

University Inn

As its name suggests, University Inn is close to the University of Minnesota. The property is geared more towards low-maintenance, extended stay guests complete with desk/study area, kitchenette with microwave, stove-top, and full-size fridge. There is free Wi-Fi and parking, and guests staying a while will appreciate access to coin operated laundry. Other attractions nearby include TFC Bank Stadium, Williams Arena, Sports Pavilion, and Mariucchi Arena.

The Commons Hotel – A Noble House Hotel

The Commons Hotel is anything but common. The industrial, schoolhouse-style property is warm and inviting, with spacious rooms, including some with loveseats or two leather sitting chairs. Look for a unique selection of services, like a Book Butler, alchemist mixology lessons, in-room art galleries, and Sudoku sleep-ins. The Commons Hotel even curates trips to places like the Aveda Institute headquarters or personal story and book creation at Loft Literary Center. Don’t miss the Beacon Public House, the hotel’s gastro-pub, offering an impressive selection of cocktails, regional cuisine, and fun events like Words with Friends Wine Hour or Retro Bar Bingo.

Snelling Motel

Looking for a budget-friendly motel for your Minneapolis trip? Consider the locally owned and operated Snelling Motel. There are only 32 rooms, which come with amenities like cable TV, in-room fridge and microwave. The property includes lighted, free parking and free Wi-Fi. Snelling Motel is also conveniently located close to the light rail system, with access to the airport and nearby attractions like Mall of America.

Le Méridien Chambers Minneapolis

If you’re into art, Le Méridien Chambers is your ideal boutique hotel in Minneapolis. Touted as the county’s first luxury art hotel, there are over 200 pieces on display in guestrooms and the lobby. Thanks to a partnership with the Walter Art Center, you can visit the contemporary art museum for free just by showing your artist-designed key card. Rooms range from a Classic Queen at 300 square feet to a 1,000-square foot Penthouse Suite. There is a 24 hour fitness center, and in-room massage services are also available around the clock. Le Méridien Chambers’ onsite Marin Restaurant & Bar serves up farm-to-table Northern California-inspired cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
